The Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) has held awareness lectures in Sharjah to educate students of the Girls Colleges of the UAE University and the Skyline University College of Sharjah. Dr. Hassan Yaseen, Senior Advisor at the SCA, delivered the lectures titled: "Investing on the Securities Market – Concepts and Advice".
In the lectures, Dr. Yaseen outlined how the securities market and securities regulatory bodies were founded and the stages of their development over the years. He also highlighted the role of security regulators in regulating and supervising trading in securities like stocks, bonds and mutual funds. He crowned the lectures by highlighting the advanced levels the SCA has reached in those areas.
Dr. Yaseen made some comparisons between trading in securities before and after the existence of well-organized securities markets in the UAE and other countries. He highlighted the significance of those organized securities markets before moving on to highlight the current state of affairs regarding securities markets and regulators and their role in maintaining market safety and in protecting investors.
He also outlined the role of central securities depositories in securities trading operations, both in-house and externally. He also outlined the concepts of securities and commodities and how they are traded on the UAE markets, including the securities markets operating in the free zones. The lectures also dealt with other issues, including the listing of public joint stock companies on the securities markets, the advantages of listing those companies on the markets and the significance of ensuring the companies abide strictly by the principles of disclosure and corporate governance.
The lectures also dealt with issues related to securities brokerage companies, including their role and the prerequisites for acquiring securities broker license, in addition to the role of the SCA Training Centre in the training and the orientation of brokers, financial analysts and other staff of securities brokerage companies.
The lectures also highlighted securities market indicators' concepts, the various types of those indicators, before ending with a number of guidance and counseling for those interested in investing on securities markets.
