SCA Holds Workshop on Product Development in Islamic Financial Institutions

In Collaboration with CIBAFI

The Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) is to host a technical workshop titled "Product Development in Islamic Financial Institutions" on November 17-19, in collaboration with its training center and the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI), the global umbrella of Islamic financial institutions.

This technical workshop is targeted to mid-level staff of Islamic banks and financial institutions, including officers from the departments of product development, Shariah, risk management and legal. The 3-day workshop aims to provide participants with hands on technical knowledge and skills pertaining to product development, with focus on Islamic financial services, and enables participants to understand the mechanisms, process and obstacles of product development.

Participants will be exposed to seamlessly integrated theory with practice program, which seeks to engage participants in discussions relating to the Shariah compliance concepts in the context of products development. The technical workshop will focus on the development of Islamic products and services and utilize real industry case studies to debate the issues.

The initiative is aligned with both organization’s strategic missions, in particular CIBAFI’s endeavor to enhance capacity building in the Islamic Financial Services Industry (IFSI), and the SCA’s mandate as the Emirates regulator and capital markets watchdog. As the ‘voice’ of the industry, CIBAFI aims to provide platforms such as this workshop to bring industry professionals together, encourage dialogue, and enhance knowledge sharing on important industry issues.
