The events highlight the importance of investor education and protection as part of efforts promoted by IOSCO

The opening bell rang today at ADX to mark the start of events held in collaboration with SCA as part of the World Investor Week in its third year. H.E. Dr. Obaid Al Zaabi, CEO of SCA, and H.E. Khalifa Al Mansouri, Acting Chief Executive of ADX, along with a number of officials, announced the start of the week’s events following the opening bell.

The events, which bring together global financial markets, aim to highlight the role of financial knowledge in enhancing financial stability of inpiduals, which results in enhanced communication, the provision of more services to investors, and increased awareness about the initiatives introduced in this respect, such as the specialized workshops that ADX organizes to raise the awareness of citizens and residents alike when it comes to saving, investing in securities, and maintaining their rights.

Following the opening bell, Dr. Al Zaabi said that the World Investor Week 2019 features a wide range of activities that are organized in collaboration with ADX, DFM, and DGCX, in response to an initiative by IOSCO. He added that this week’s events include a busy program of activities targeting people with different social and professional backgrounds to help raise their awareness and enhance their financial literacy, thus helping them to preserve their investments and exercise their rights. The program seeks to open new channels of communication with investors, use social media platforms, provide investors with a variety of services, and organize workshops and seminars, in line with the events and initiatives introduced in more than 80 financial markets across the globe.

Dr. Al Zaabi said that as part of this week’s events, he, along with SCA’s department managers, will be meeting with traders gathered at the trading floor to respond to their queries and to familiarize them with the rules and regulations governing financial market transactions, pointing out to the National Investor Awareness and Financial Inclusion Program that SCA launched to acquaint investors with the key role that financial markets play in financing the economy.

Commenting on the initiative, H.E. Al Mansouri said, “enhancing investor knowledge has positive implications for the expansion and growth of financial markets as it creates confident investors.” “ADX has shown potential to provide high-level information to current and prospective investors. As a result, it has won increasing admiration at the local and international levels and has become a leading and influential platform in the UAE and the MENA region,” he added.

H.E. Al Mansouri highlighted the significance of this event, saying that “World Investor Week 2019 mirrors IOSCO’s success in enhancing investor protection worldwide and increasing investor confidence in the soundness of securities markets”. “Moreover, the objectives of this initiative are consistent with those of ADX when it comes to promoting financial literacy and educating and protecting investors,” he concluded.
